THING:

Go on admit it, you've all done it haven't you?

Planted something that came from some fruit you've bought in a supermarket and planted the seed only to throw it out when it goes mouldy, I did, it's just that we haven't a clue what it is, it survived tucked away on the kitchen windowsill in 'no hope corner' and I was just going to throw it out till I looked a bit closer.

There's a prize for anyone who correctly guesses what it is before it either dies or bears fruit. 18th February:

A small development I see, it's reaching out.

And now, a closer look. Don't forget you can click the pictures for a larger image, it won't bite!
(yet)

19th February:

It's flexing its muscles I see, but what's this I see . . .

Didn't notice this before, the new leaves (or tentacles perhaps) are inside a hard casing 20th February:

Oh hell, it's noticed me.

Strange is an adjective I might use at the moment, I've seen seed pods with shoots bursting from them but never the other way around, I hope it's tame.

21st February

It fell off.

The pod at the end of the stalk just fell off taking with it the two primary leaves. This may be the end of 'thing'.

Lets look inside the 'pod' anyway.

23rd February:

 I am such a fool.

It has nothing to do with the stone I planted at all. The 'Pods' are in fact the old Custard Apple seeds I planted in December and thought were dead, we plonked the stone seed on top!

I shall go and stand in a corner for an hour shall I

25th February

All is not lost (yet anyway), I have replanted the original 'thing' or fruit stone that is now known as 'The Thing' because I noticed a split in the body, now it may be trying to throw out a shoot or just  falling apart but I'll give it a chance.

The other thing is now in it's proper place under 'Custard Apple' on the main menu.

 'IT LIVES'
(Dr Frankenstein)

March 23rd
(Easter Sunday - ironically perhaps)

'Thing' has surprised us all again, popping up just when you least expect it.

March 31st

This 'Thing' never fails to surprise me, standing about two inches tall, it has perfectly formed little leaves and a dappled stalk but . . . still don't know what it is.

April 7th

UP, up and away!

April 15

To be honest I didn't think it would have lasted this long, and so everyday is a bonus and perhaps I'll find out just what it is.

May 26

Thing still lives. I'm none the wiser as to what it is, I just have a feeling that putting it outside wouldn't be a good idea.

Progress is slow but healthy, just the odd splash of water now and again seems to keep it alive, I have resisted the urge to talk to it.
