SWEET CORN: Started 17th February |
Maize, sweet corn, corn on the cob,
whatever you want to call it, I've got it.
Yes I did expect the seeds to be yellow,
can't think why, they resemble tiny dried up peppers but life is full of
surprises, or so my wife informs me. I've planted just four seeds as space
is at a premium behind my shed. |
Are you sitting comfortably, then I
shall begin, by burying you! |
21st February
Fours days later and look what's popped
up. |
24th February
Who's growing up to be a big boy then.
Height = 3.5cm
26th February
Now standing at 5.5 cm it's averaging one
centimetre a day and a definite leaf is starting to unfold, stand back.

March 14th: Four seeds were planted in two pots, one from each grew, one was placed outside in the greenhouse whilst the other remained indoors (featured left) the indoor one is now 26cm tall and multi leaved, time it got re-potted and joined it's brother I feel. |

March 23rd Yes it is probably too early, it's certainly to cold and wet but they have got to move out, sorry guys but you've out grown your pots. |
April sometime
Gone, plain and simple, both plants have
up and left me. I suspect the cats have dug them up and so I shall have to
plant the last few seeds and start again. |
June 3 With complete disregard to my own safety I just chucked in some seeds, covered them over with soil and left them.
It worked. |
July 4 No it didn't. within a few weeks the neighbouring Lemon Tomato plant swamped it out of sight, the sweet corn now living in the shade remained a shadow of what it should have been, drastic action was called for (when I eventually remembered they exsisted) |
Having built my latest 'dirt box' or 'raised bed' if you prefer, it was the ideal place to attempt the trans-plant (pun intended).
The wire mesh is to stop the cats digging them up.

And now . . . a word from our
sponsors.
OK, there're not really sponsoring me but they did send me a free catalogue
so worth a mention. |
