MOUSE MELONS : Started April

I know mice don't have melons.

These are mini melons, small round and firm, not unlike me.

 

April 23rd:

The kitchen window sill has worked it's magic again.

April 30th

Starting to take form, it appears that the first pair of lobe like leaves are just there to gather light and energy and when there's enough the true leaves start to form

 

June 20

Since planting outside in the mini greenhouse in May the mouse melons have shown some good growth, the packet said fast growers so I planted them at the back, turns out their actually quite slow.

 

June 30

Now here was a surprise, the mouse melon plant, hidden behind the fast growing tomatillo has produced these two tiny flowers, so easy to miss but so cute!


July 5
Tucked away at the back of the mini greenhouse mouse melon makes a break for it

And hidden away from view a tiny melon begins to form.
Almost impossible to focus on assistance is called upon by my 14 year old daughter.

Egg shaped inch-long green & white striped or mottled fruits resembling tiny watermelons. Fast-growing annual with lobed leaves from Mexico. Fruits have a tasty flavour and crunchy in texture, used in salads or stir fries and pickled in Mexico where they are known as Mexican Sour Gherkins.
