Runner beans

June 7th: I must try and grow things I actually like to eat, runner beans aren't one of them but the wife does.
easy to grow and quite fast too. these beans are in fact from the pods of last years growth which did work and produced a proper crop.

The gap between picture two and 3 was a mere 3 days, I really do get a kick out of seeing things work.
Mr Fothergills veg seeds can be found here.

July 17th: Update. 42 inches (1.07 metres), slow but steady.
I've tended to ignore the runner beans which is probably why one snuffed it. The excitement starts now however, I have a bud!

August 5th: Runner bean alert.

After putting on a spurt of flowering it looks like we have the start of a runner bean proper as seen in the last picture on this row.

August 23rd: The runner beans have not faired well this year, just one plant remains but it is producing a small crop that to be honest isn't worth harvesting for food, these will be for next years seeds I think
