Melon |

|

|
I have the feeling it's mocking me.
I've tried a melon plant before, it
showed great potential . . . then died.
Second attempt now, four plants carefully housed in my portable greenhouse
shack thing. These should be ok in summer but with our changeable weather
I'm taking no chances. Planted around
May 20th. |

July 21st:
Well that was a bit sneaky, the melon that had done so little has very
quietly started popping little yellow flowers very similar to the cucumber,
probably related. |
|
 |
July 30th:
Disaster, after heavy rain and high winds the past few days two of the four
plants have died. the wind had twisted the stalks just too much.
I shook my fist at the sky, didn't
help. |

August 11th:
All is not lost.
I have to admit that the melon plants are a bit on the scraggly side, growth
is slow, I really did expect something more tangible but at least it's
trying.
We now have a few more flowers, very small and delicate but not coming to
much,
I shall have to have words with it. |

September 14th:
I had words with it but it sulked for the
rest of the day and now just lies there all limp and rejected. I've
given up with it to be honest, here you can see the root system didn't come
to much, perhaps our erratic summer just wasn't enough. |

 |
NEXT YEAR:
I will be looking at growing these
cucumber melons next year (2008) I have the seeds already and perhaps a new
mini greenhouse should be purchased to give then a reasonable chance. |
