June 23rd:
Market bought lettuce, they look very
succulent and lush. Potted in to a plastic troth and offered some protection
in the mini-green house from the pouring rain, must be summer then.
Slug pellets added.
June 28th:
Signs of mould showing on the slug pellets, have removed them.
July 4th:
The lettuce seem to be suffering big time, the outer leaves have wilted and
died leaving these weak looking plants. We've had lousy weather, little
sunshine and stacks of rain, this may be a factor, I shall leave them
outside now to get as much natural light as possible.
August 23rd:
From the leafy lettuce they started out
as they formed a more compact pointed plant that I think are the type known
as Cos. Outer leaves removed reveals crunchy crisp inner leaves that the Mrs
enjoyed.
September 14th:
This is what happens when left to
their own devices. These 'Cos' lettuce which are usually just about nine
inches tall have now reached 18 inches.
October 7th:
Now standing at 31 inches high they no longer resemble the original lettuce
in anyway other than a couple of leaves at the base of the plants. Just
stunned that a lettuce can do this.
